From playback to a marker list in four moves.

Shutter works the way a review session already does: watch, stop on the frame that's wrong, say what's wrong with it, and send the list to the person who fixes it.

  1. 01

    Open the clip

Drop a file onto the review screen or choose one. Shutter plays it straight from your drive, so there's no upload, whatever the size. Reviews you've opened before show up on your dashboard.

  2. 02

    Park on the frame

Scrub the timeline, or step with ← and →. Set the clip's frame rate and start timecode once, and every note is stamped with the same timecode your edit shows.

  3. 03

    Mark it

Press M. Click to drop a pin, drag a box, or draw a freehand line, then write the note and pick a category. Skip the mark entirely if the note is about the whole frame.

  4. 04

    Hand it off

Export from the menu at the top of the review: a frame grab, a CSV, timeline markers for Resolve, or the full review as JSON. Resolve notes as they're fixed and the list keeps track.

Your hands stay on the keyboard.

Everything in a review session has a key. Press ? in a review to bring this list up.

The details.

Three ways to mark

Pin for a point: a light, a face, a prop. Box for an area: a clipped sky, a boom in frame. Draw for a line or an edge: a horizon, a matte, a path through the shot.

Marks are white with a black edge so they read on bright and dark footage. Resolved marks turn dashed, so you can still see what was asked.

Frame rates and timecode

23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94 and 60 fps. Timecode reads HH:MM:SS:FF and starts from any start TC you set, such as 01:00:00:00.

29.97 and 59.94 count as non-drop-frame. Drop-frame timecode isn't supported yet.

What opens

Video: MP4 and MOV in H.264 or HEVC, and WebM. Stills: PNG and JPEG.

Shutter plays whatever your browser can decode. ProRes, DNxHR and camera RAW won't play in a browser, so export an H.264 or HEVC proxy for review. Shutter tells you when a file won't decode.

Categories

Color, Framing, Focus, Continuity, VFX, Edit, Performance and Other. Pick a default in Settings so the one you use most is already selected.

Browsers

Built and tested in Chromium browsers such as Chrome and Edge. There, the dashboard can reopen a review's file in one click.

Other browsers ask you to choose the file again when you come back to a review, because they don't let a site keep a link to a file on your drive.

Try it on your own cut.
